4th 6 Weeks of 4th Grade

24 weeks down! 12 left. Joel is right on grade level, some of his assignments we have to push him a little and the rest he breezes through.

Family devotions include our reading plan or a short devotion. For school, Joel has a book called Talking With Your Kids About God and a memory passage or two each week along with verses from church or Rangers.

For history and social studies he is continuing in a book called American Indian Prayer Guide. We have American History: A Visual Encyclopedia and The Beginner’s American History and every now and then a reading from Landmark History of the American People as our spines. This unit we finished King George What Was His Problem? and read The Constitution of the United States. Each week we have a current events assignment and timeline entries.

Nate and Joel read Johnny Tremain, The White House is Burning, and Carry On Mr. Bowditch as read alouds. Each week they have a selection from A Child’s Introduction to Poetry.

Language Arts has a rhytym. He has spelling with Sequential Spelling 1, a cursive assignment each week, grammar with The Grammar Ace, vocabulary with Wordly Wise 3000, Book 4, and usually a creative assignment each week. His readers this unit were Ben Franklin of Old Philadelphia, The Cabin Faced West, Sarah Whitcher’s Story, and Om Kas Toe

Science consists of mostly readings from The Usborne Encyclopedia of Planet Earth which he finished and then he started Usbone Illustrated Elementary Science Dictionary. He has a weekly reading from DK Findout! Engineering. And a weekly experiment with Discover and Do: Level D

Math is Horizons 4 and usually do some Prodigy as a supplement.

Joel didn’t get to do any sports in the winter but we have been encouraging him to continue to work on drumming. He plays every other week for our church service so he has to keep up with his practicing. He did get to go on a campout with Royal Rangers and ended up winning a tent as a prize. He turned 10 with a ice skating party and we saw most of our TX family. He got to go to lots of Ben’s bball games and now we have Ginny’s track meets every few weeks. He has kids class and rangers each once a week. The rest of the time he plays out side with his chickens and inside on his switch.
