Becca’s Hobbies and Interests
Books
I love books. My favorite genre is fantasy and anything with dragons. Lately, I’ve been reading more historical fiction and biographical stuff.
Bottles
I collect Root Beer bottles (I also like to drink the root beer out of the bottles), right now I have about twenty different brands. Since I have begun to collect these bottles people have gotten it into their head that I collect all sorts of bottles as long as they are out of the ordinary.
Now on top of my root beer collection I have:
- 6-pack of Special Edition: Class of 2001 Coke Bottles
Unopened - A Special Edition: Olympics 2003 Coke (I was there!)
Unopened - Spring Grove Pop – Lemon Lime
- Old Big Red and Dr. Pepper Bottles (found on our land)
- Weirdly shaped Snapple Bottles
They like making odd shaped bottles!
Note: These are not the easiest things to transport!
Sports
Current
We’ve played on some co-ed volleyball teams over the years, but haven’t found anything in Waco that fits in our schedule yet. I guess chasing kids doesn’t count as a sport?
Intramural Sports
Intramurals 2003-2005: I pretty much played on the Aggie Lutheran Co-Ed Basketball and Volleyball teams these years.
Intramurals 2002-2003: I couldn’t play every time on the Aggie Lutheran Softball team because of a work schedule conflict, but, I did play one game and had an RBI. This is saying a lot for me because I am so backward that I can never decide which hand to put the glove on!
We continued the 5 on 5 co ed Aggie Lutheran team and had so many people come out that we could sub whole teams in! Playing with my friends it always fun!
Intramurals 2001-2002: As a freshman in college I had to get used to the idea of not having all of my high school activities to keep me occupied. For awhile my classes seemed like they would take up a lot of my time, but I still needed something to do physically. I participated in an intramural volleyball ‘B’ squad with 5 other girls. It was a lot of fun. We made it to the third round of playoffs before we had to forfeit because we couldn’t reschedule a game when we had some time conflicts. So we ended undefeated : 5-0. It would have been interesting to see how far we would have gone if we could have rescheduled, but no use wondering about something we can’t change.
Another aspect of intramurals I became involved in was officiating. I became an official for the volleyball games and learned what it was like to be in charge of the game and not playing in the game. I made some new friends and did well enough that I got to be an official at a couple of championship games at the end of the season. ( We got championship official shirts so it was a big thing ). Besides having fun and not having to be stressed about work, I made a little money and learned a lot. Overall my first semester intramural experience was great!
My second semster of my freshman year, I played Intramural 5 on 5 coed basketball. It was my first experience playing co-ed and I enjoyed it. The team was made up mostly Aggie Lutherans and we had a great time!
High School Sports
I began competitive sports in junior high. I played volleyball, basketball, and ran track for my school. In eighth grade I broke my ankle playing volleyball and was out for the rest of the season. One of the hardest things I ever did was sit on the side and watch my team play without me. I was determined to be back on the court for basketball, and I was.
After my freshman year in highschool, I decided track was not for me and concentrated on volleyball and basketball. I played varsity volleyball as a Sophomore and basketball as a Junior.
- Volleyball
- Second Team All District 2000
- First Team All District 2001
- Academic All Dirstrict 2000 and 2001
- Basketball
- First Team All District 2000
- First Team All District 2001
- My team was a Bi-District Finalist in 2000
Making it to playoffs in basketball my junior year stands out as a great memory for me when I look back on my high school years. It was the first time a team from our school made it to playoffs since ’92. We had a pep rally just for us and a lot of the guys and parents came to our game. Even though we lost, it was an awesome exerience!
My list of recreational sports is fairly long:
- I will play volleyball or basketball anytime anyone else is interested.
- Bowling – I’ve been bowling since I was little and am fairly good.
- Snow Skiing – My parents took me to Riodosa, NM and I have been to Monarch in CO twice with my church youth group. I also went skiing in Alta, Utah during the Olympics 2002 and the first time I skiied with Nate was at Loveland, CO. I don’t enjoy falling in the snow (since I don’t like being cold) and therefore I have become fairly good at not falling down. My favorite part is the scenery and I like going down the blue slopes the best.
- Ice Skating – I’ve been numerous times and love it. Once again, I’ve been with my youth group, my friends, and my family. The only thing I don’t like is that the skates hurt my ankles.
- Raquetball and Tennis are not my favorites but I can hold a raquet and most of the time I can make contact with the ball.
- Softball- I never played for school but softball is fun as long as I don’t have to watch. I’ve played in many church games and in relaxing games of parents against the dance team and so on.
- Water Sports- I’ve been canoeing and boating. I am a fairly good water skiier and love tubing. I don’t get out that often but if I’m in a boat it usually involves one of these sports.
- Putt Putt – Miniature golf is always fun. I love playing and am ok.
- Pool – I have good days and bad days. My youth group in high school had a table so I learned how to play my freshman year. Now, I just like playing with my friends because its relaxing and you can talk at the same time.
- I recently had an awesome experience with rock climbing. I had been climbing with my aunt and uncle a couple times before, but this was great. So now I have a new sport that I enjoy.
- There are many other sports out there and I enjoy trying new things. I’m interested in going hang gliding, parasailing (did this in Hawaii 2007), and parachuting some time before I die.
