Last month we read our stories from Asia and made our Asia map. We’ve been plodding along on some old math and language worksheets I had from our kindergartner last year and Hannah has also finished up the Handwriting Without Tears Kindergarten workbook. Her handwriting is getting pretty good.
We’ve been working through one P3/4 story a day with Benjamin. He also progressed surprisingly well from holding his crayon in a full hand grip to a nice tripod pencil grip. He still doesn’t like to hold it the correct way unless you ask him to. But if he knows he is being watched or when he is ‘doing school’, he will hold it correctly. Yay! I thought this would take longer.
When we got back from break, we moved into the continent of Australia which only includes Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, Australia and New Zealand. Hannah thought that Papua New Guinea sounded funny and got the giggles. We have a couple weeks left of stories then we do Africa and Antarctica and we’re done with our second pass through P4/5.
Benjamin has been impressing me with his ability to pick up things. We got the kids a LeapPad for Christmas and one of the games we got was a math one. I was surprised to watch him correctly identify the numerals 0-9 in the game. 🙂 He’s also shown some aptitude for numbers and counting lately.
I’ve ordered everything we need to start Kinder when Hannah turns 5. I’ll make a post about it soon. I went ahead and let Hannah start her calendar though so that it would start in January. Each month we’ll fill out the days and birthdays and put some stickers on. We’ll continue our tradition of marking each day off in the morning when we’re ready for our day.
