I think we might have been able to take a few more items from our house, but not many. 😉
Believe it or not, we had a hard time finding a flat space big enough for our huge tent. Haha. We ended up with a little ‘hill’ in the middle of the room, but we had enough space to sleep around it, that it didn’t bother us too much.
We took a couple short hikes with the kids. Nothing extravagant but they enjoyed playing on the fallen trees and throwing rocks in the little lake we were near. They were obsessed with finding bugs and spiders everywhere and liked to point out any little animals they saw. I found a huge mushroom like the kind on Mario Brothers (red with white spots), it was amazing. I didn’t put anything next to it to show scale, but when I first saw it I thought it was a plastic kick ball.
Hannah helped Nate cook our hamburgers and hotdogs and earned her first burn on her arm by reaching over the grill. We also discovered that she takes after her mommy’s pyro habits. She poked and played with our campfire for hours. 🙂
We performed a glowing bubbles experiment by opening up some glow sticks and pouring the stuff into our bubble jars. It was fun just to play with the glo stuff. It looked like Predator blood. The bubbles looked good in the jar (except the glo stuff didn’t want to mix very well), but you couldn’t see the glow when you actually blew bubbles. They were just too thin. Besides the glowing bubble experiment, we always enjoy just playing with the glow sticks. Benjamin had two red ones and said he was Darth Vader (but we’re pretty sure he meant Darth Mal). Endless entertainment.
On our way home we stopped a the Tonto Creek Fish Hatchery. We got to see the different age fish tanks. It was fun to watch them try to jump up into the waterfall aerators. It was amazing how many fish were in each tank. They didn’t have any itty-bitty ones currently, but the ones they did have ranged from a few inches to a couple feet.
