Benjamin turned 4 and we’re starting our next year of preschool with him. We’ve had a break from this core for a little over a year so it will be fun to get back into a lot of these books and we’ll see how much of them Benjamin remembers from when we read them with Hannah. Along with the basic P4/5 set of books to read (science and social studies are included in the readings and not separate), we’ll be adding HWT Kinder which adds in the lower case letters interspersed with Sonlight Language Arts K. Ben has known all his letter sounds for awhile, so we’re going to see if he is ready to blend them. I don’t think reading starts until week 10ish so we’ve got time to prep him. We do one letter poster a week with pictures that start with that letter and think of word that start with that letter to practice the sounds. They spend two weeks on each vowel so we’ll be working on this project for quite a while.
There is also a set of workbooks called Developing the Early Learner in this core that helps you determine your child’s learning style and help you work on any auditory, memory, visual, and thinking skills. We liked these a lot the last time around, so hopefully Ben will like them too.
For extras, we’ll be continuing with our PE co-op twice a week. We’re really enjoying it so far!
We will also still try to do one outing a week with our homeschool group. They typically have multiple choices to pick from, so I try to pick the more age appropriate things for the kids.
