It all started in the middle of January when Nate was contacted by a representative from Spacex with an opportunity that sounded right up his alley. We weren’t looking to move or switch jobs and had always thought our next adventure would take us back to Texas. But, as we got more info, this sounded better and better. He did a phone interview, then had some ‘homework’, after which they invited him for an onsite interview. He (of course) impressed them and they came up with a tempting offer. So we evaluated and decided it was a go. Currently we are thinking of starting the second week of April.
He is very excited about the job. It will still be ground software for their current lines of rockets. Basically what he is doing now. The company atmosphere is a little more exciting (they are young and kinda still in a startup type environment) and they have some vision and goals for manned space flight and trips to Mars that are very publicly watched and anticipated. This of course is something he’d love to be a part of and see success in.
From my perspective, my typical day won’t change very much from a move across states. Me and the kids are so mobile right now and even some of the responsibilities I had last year had been finished up. As long as we have our books and internet access, we’ll be happy! The area is very similar to Phoenix as far as opportunities for me to find work if it became necessary.
We are sad to have to say goodbye to some wonderful work colleagues, neighbors, our church family, and school friends. Hopefully we’ll be able to continue to stay in touch at least during Christmas time. 🙂 Our site has kept us in touch with friends and family from our previous moves and we will continue to share news that way.
As far as arrangements, God has been opening doors and dealing with details. We had a very successful garage sale last weekend. And this week we are signing papers with tenants for our house. We didn’t even have the sign up in the front yard yet! So all we really have left is to find a place to stay (rent) for a little while as we scope out the neighborhoods and driving conditions there and then move!
Assuming we have space, we’d love to have visitors if you wanna crash at our place for beach / Disney / Legoland trips! We hope more of our friends and family will find Los Angeles to be a destination over Phoenix. 😉
Excited for y’all and this big adventure. Keep God in your plans and He will see you through. We look forward to staying in touch no matter the distance! Blessings to you in this time of transition!
Congratulations! Sounds like a wonderful opportunity, and exciting adventure. Hope you can still find a way to make it back to the cabin for a family get together.
