I know I only updated a couple weeks ago, because we were behind on updates. We are done through week 18 now, which puts us halfway through P4/5. With Hannah in a somewhat lull, I feel like I’ve been able to spend a little more time with Ben focusing on his reading and speech and we’re making progress. Yay!
Bible – Still working through the P4/5 bible, Family Time Bible in Pictures. Most of the stories are nice and short with one or two questions. Just right for Ben. Working on weekly bible verses and learning some new songs.
In history/social studies, we finished up Things People Do by reading about a TV producer, police officer, vet, ballet dancer, and the workers at a festival. This is a really great book.
Read Alouds – Continuing with daily Mother Goose, and weekly selections from Uncle Wiggily, Stories From Around the World, or Lion Storyteller Book. We’re also doing some fun stuff with First Thousand Words and working through an art appreciation book. We started a collection of Brer Rabbit stories. He’s not my favorite, but Ben seems to pick up on the fact that Brer Rabbit isn’t very nice.
Reading / LA – Ben is doing really great with his reading. Blending kinda took off recently and it’s a lot of fun to see him ‘get it’. He does a lot more memorizing than I remember Hannah doing, so I broke down and bought the first set of Bob Books because we needed more early reader material that he didn’t have memorized yet. We’re also halfway through the letters of the alphabet, focusing on a letter a week.
Science – We completed the Berenstein’s Bears Big Book of Science and started some small Usborne books, currently doing an under the sea book.
Math – We aren’t doing any formal math, but I think he picks up a lot of what Hannah is doing. He’s still working through some development workbooks. He struggles with remembering multiple step tasks (doesn’t everyone), we need to work on him focusing better and how to recall.
Extras – Benjamin did his first book report presentation this past week (group pictured above, and report to left). It consisted of him standing in the front with his hands in his mouth and me giving the report. 😉 Hopefully he’ll do better next month.
– We’re slowly finding other schoolers to hang out with and starting to have some playdates.
– We’ve been swimming almost daily. The kids are getting better, but still look like they might drown at any moment.
– Ben is doing a more crafts in his pre-K class at church than he’s ever done in his life, although he’s resisting somewhat. He may start to like art afterall.
