Benjamin finished up week 24 of P4/5 on Friday. This is really such a nice little preschool core. We enjoy the readings, they are short and fun, and he’s being introduced to a lot of topics.
Bible – Still working through the P4/5 bible, Family Time Bible in Pictures. Also continuing on weekly bible verses and learning new songs each week.
In history/social studies, we read through a SL book called Stories from Africa and another book called The God’s Must Be Angry about a family in Thailand. We also listened to some American Tall Tales.
Read Alouds – Continuing with daily Mother Goose, and weekly selections from Uncle Wiggily, Stories From Around the World, Children’s Book of Virtues, or Lion Storyteller Book. We use First Thousand Words as a vocabulary builder and also have an art appreciation book. We started some chapters of Milly Molly Mandy, which is a cute little book.
Reading / LA – Ben’s reading and writing is going great! He’s got phonetic words down and is starting to remember some sight words. I was hoping that as he got better at reading, it would clear up some of his speech stuff and it seems to be. He’s pretty patient with me. I have to spend a lot of time reminding him of the letters where he needs to touch his tongue to his teeth to make the right sound, but we’re getting there.
Science – Finished up What’s Under the Sea and he chose that book for his June book report so he drew a little underwater scene to present and he actually said a little bit about it so a little improvement from last month. We also read Is the Blue Whale the Biggest Thing There Is? which is a great little science book on how large the universe is compared to us.
Math – No formal math, just writing some numbers and working on recognition up to 100.
Extras – Lots of fun trips with our new groups; aquarium, botanical garden, hiking, children’s museum, park days, movie outings, library presentations, swimming time, and beach days. He has a couple little friends that are close to his age, hoping they can having some good playdates.
