We were able to go with our group on a tour of a local post office a couple weeks back. The kids all got to put a letter into the slot and then go ‘behind the scenes’ to see where it went. My kids sent letters to the grandparents. Then we saw all the sorting areas, the bar code scanner, and the junk mail pile. They all got to go into an empty mail truck and then stand on a scale to see how much the group weighed. 😉 The only drawback was that we toured when almost none of the workers were there (good time for a tour so we don’t get in the way, but bad time because you don’t see how busy it must be). The lady who led our tour was very patient with our crazy little group and I think the kids had a good time.
