Benjamin has been enjoying his lightened workload for our ‘tweener time before we start 1st grade in the fall. It must be the end of the year, because the certificates are flying!
He completed the last few weeks of our Core A science by working through a comic book style reader about Isaac Newton and the laws of motion that was very enjoyable.
We’re still having daily bible reading and he’s doing some memory verse work with his Royal Rangers group. We’ve been reading a book of poetry from our Winnie the Pooh collection. We worked through a set of book by a favorite author, Carolyn Haywood. They were Eddie’s Green Thumb, Eddie the Dog Holder, and Robert Rows the River. We also read The Wizard of Oz and watched the movie. Right now, we are reading the original Peter Pan and Ben is making his own little summary of it. I’ll post that when we finish.
During this time both kids completed their Keyboarding Without Tears 1st grade level so they got certificates for that. We’ll keep on with review levels a few times a week, but they are pretty good typists. 🙂
We’ve also been working through a book called Hero Tales of great historical people like Martin Luther and Harriet Tubman. We learn about one person a week.
He’s been continuing along with is 1st grade math worksheets and will finish before Sept, so I’ll just have him do memory work until we start the next level.
For extras, we have weekly park day and our museum membership. We recently participated in a hs field day. We have been spending lots of time out in nature and watching the animals around our land. Ben joined Royal Rangers and I’ve been impressed with his willingness to learn the pledge/codes and other memory work as well as being excited about participating. Both kids got free tickets to Fiesta Texas for participating in the 6 Flags reading program. We’ll be doing that some time this summer with the cousins and grandparents.
Congratulations, Benjamin, on finishing out your Science program for the year!
