Only 12 weeks left. I’m enjoying going through this core again.
For bible, we are reading through the New Testament during our devotions and working through Leading Little Ones to God for school. He also has a memory verse or two each week. Benjamin recited Psalm 23 for our rangers group this unit.
In history/social studies, we have a weekly read from Akebu to Zapotec and continue through our spines of Child’s History of the World and Usborne Book of World History for history. We’ve moved to the Greek and Persian empires. We finished Missionary Stories with the Millers, The Greek News, and The Great Wall of China this unit and started a biography on George Mueller.
For Read Alouds we finished Understood Betsy, Mountain Born, It Could Always Be Worse, and Greek Myths and started The Wheel on the School. We have weekly selections of poetry and Mother Goose rhymes.
Ben does well with his reading and writing most of the time. We finished Explode the Code 5 and moved into 6. He does a weekly assignment in cursive to keep it fresh and a weekly vocabulary assignment from Wordly Wise A. During this unit we finished The Beginner’s Bible and moved into some fun, short readers: Owl at Home, Frog and Toad are Friends, and Mouse Tales.
We don’t quite get a full week of science in each week, but we’ll continue it through summer so will finish before we start next year. We finished up our tour of animals in Usborne World of Animals this unit. We still have a weekly reading in See How It’s Made and experiments this unit included things with water and moved into optics. We read Magic School Bus at the Waterworks and started a section on the human body with readings from First Encyclopedia of the Human Body and What Makes You Ill?.
Ben is halfway through Horizons 2 working on money and fractions and double digit addition.
Benjamin chose to make his derby car look like a tank! 🙂
Extras keep us busy. He still chooses to do piano as his elective and we have weekly meetings with Royal Rangers and our homeschool friends at park day. We had a service project with our church and a trip to see family for birthdays and basketball games. We went to the Mayborn children’s museum twice this unit. We’re also working on building a secret hideout and trying to get him to ride his bike without training wheels.
