Well, we finally got 12 weeks of Hannah’s 4th grade under our belts. We’ve had a lot going on to distract us, but have been having fun.
During morning devotions we are going through some Girl’s Ministry material so during Hannah’s bible time she has been reading selections from John and Psalms. We also have a devotion called Starting Strong once and week and she has memorization passages each week as well.
In history/social studies, we’ve made it through the Civil War to reconstruction. We’ve read selections from American Adventures I, Wee Sing America, Children’s Encyclopedia of American History, Landmark History of the American People, Vol I and II. We studied Abraham Lincoln via Linconln: A Photobiography and Hannah chose him as her subject for the History Fair. We also read a biography of Thomas Edison.
I enjoy our read aloud time still and this unit we got through In the Year of the Boar and Jackie Robinson and Across Five Aprils and started Caddie Woodlawn. We also have weekly selections from Oxford Illustrated Book of American Children’s Poems.
Reading / LA goes well. Hannah finished Sequential Spelling 1 and moved into book 2. She has a cursive assignment each week as well as something from The Grammar Ace and Wordly Wise 3000, Book 4 along with a creative assignment.
Hannah reads her readers to herself now and she finished up Turn Homeward Hannalee, Shades of Gray, Sing Down the Moon, and Old Yeller. I told her Old Yeller would make her cry so she didn’t on purpose. She told me she cried on the inside.
We’ve gotten a little bit of traction on Science 4. We finished Diary of an Early American Boy and continued our magnetism studies in Discover and Do Level 4, TOPS #33: Magnetism, and Electricity and Magnetism.
Math continues to be a least favorite subject but she isn’t bad at it. She gets frustrated when she misses a problem, but this first set of lessons is a review of last year so she is doing well on them in general.
Extras are lots of fun. We have weekly piano, Girl’s Ministry, and Park Days. Our troop built and launched rockets this Fall which was exciting. We’ve had November birthdays with family including a surprise party for Grandpa and Thanksgiving with both sides of the family as well. Hannah was also asked to be a trial participant in an online coding class, so she is trying that out.
That is amazing. She is a beautiful young girl on the outside. I can only imagine her inner beauty. Good job, Mom.
Min W She is growing so fast!
