We decided kinda late in the game that we did want to go through NY city since we were so close and when would we ever go again. So, the country girls made it. Google tried hard to get us to the Statue of Liberty, but we still had to have some help. We did the little ferry boat but didn’t get off at the island as we still wanted to at least drive by some stuff in town and eat lunch. We went through the Holland Tunnel from NJ to NY which was only a little terrifying, the kids were amazed we were under water. We went past Ground 0 but were on the wrong side of the road and then it was hard to turn around, so we didn’t go back. We missed the exit for the Empire State building, though we saw it, and didn’t go back. We drove all around Central Park before deciding there wasn’t parking at it, found a garage, got our baggage checked (I warned the guy it was going to fall out of the van), walked to the park, and crossed Broadway on the way. We tried to find the carousel only to learn it was closed that day, ate hot dogs, and got out of there. I didn’t get honked at, but saw some honking and gesturing, so I’m calling it a win. Then we had a longish drive on small NY roads with low speed limits to Lisa’s but we made it in time for dinner.
