We are in a pretty good routine with Joel these days. (It did take us awhile to finish 6 weeks but that was due to vacations.) I had to move him first in the day and then assign each of the olders to take turns playing with him while I read to the other one to get our morning readings completed. That has been working well. Then we all do table work together.
Joel got a new bible that he likes so we read our morning devotion and then if there is a corresponding version in his bible, we will read it too. We also do his song of the week during this time. He gets a kick out of the silly little nursery rhyme songs and we end up singing them more often than just in the mornings.
History/social studies is a book called Things People Do and reading through a children’s bible. Things People Do discusses different occupations and has lots of great vocabulary. He has a bible verse that we work on each week as well.
Read Alouds consist of a few major spines that are A Treasury of Mother Goose, The Lion Storyteller Bedtime Book, Uncle Wiggily’s Story Book, Stories From Around the World, The Children’s Book of Virtues, and Eric Carle’s Animals Animals. We read one or two stories from each one during the week. Every now and then we have a listening activity from a Tall Tales CD.
In language, we finished Developing the Early Learner I and moved into the second book. We are also doing Preschool Handwriting Without Tears about one or two worksheets a day when we do seat work. We have started a very slow “letter of the week” process with Dr. Seuss’ ABCs.
Science is a book called Berenstain Bear’s Big Book of Science and Nature. We will be sad when it is over. Joel likes to find some of our other Berenstain bear books on the bookshelf.
Math isn’t formalized yet. Still working on remembering 13.
Extras are fun. Joel has a subscription to God’s Big World by World News and likes to watch the videos on the app. He also does GoNoodle when we have some downtime or watching the LeadFrog learning videos. We have weekly park day and Royal Rangers. Joel got to go to his first RR PowWow and stay the night this spring. He brought home poison ivy, but he loved it. We went to a skating rink with our friends and Joel really liked the idea of laser tag so he asks to do that pretty often. Joel finished up his first round of sports, tball. He liked it, but we may wait awhile before trying again. We’ve had a trip each month since Easter and one more to MN in July. He went on his first international trip as well as first mission trip and he did amazingly well. A well traveled little 4 yo.
