We have had a lot of vacations/trips this spring, so I have to think far back to write up our last six weeks of school! We just have six weeks left to finish out.
In our devotional times, we have been helping Benjamin read through his requirements for Discovery Rangers Bible Merit. Benjamin also has a memory verse set for each week and a daily prayer guide for the Native Americans.
In history/social studies, we’ve been in the early history of the United States. We read If You Were There When They Signed the Constitution which was a nice little story about the constitution. Our spines are The Beginner’s American History, Children’s Encyclopedia of American History, and Landmark History of the American People, vol I. We also read about the Louisiana Purchase and The Lewis and Clark Expedition. This was nice as we drove along part of their route on our way to Idaho. Benjamin also memorized a Patrick Henry speech excerpt this unit.
Read Alouds have been fun this unit. We read Justin Morgan Had a Horse, The Journeyman, Winter Danger, and started Adoniram Judson: Bound for Burma. We also had our weekly selections from A Child’s Introduction to Poetry.
Reading / LA is not Ben’s favorite subject. He has given me a bit of pushback on his writing assignments, but I think he learned that he just has to redo them so he might as well do it better the first time. We have spelling in Sequential Spelling I, vocabulary in Wordly Wise 3000, Book 3, a weekly cursive and a weekly creative assignment.
Benjamin usually reads ahead in readers. This unit he read Om-kas-toe, Sarah Whitcher’s Story, and started Robert Fulton, Boy Craftsman with some extras in between.
Science was a little disjointed. We finished up our beans by just being done when it was time for one of our trips. Our books were TOPS Green Thumbs: Corn and Beans, Real Science 4 Kids:Biology Level I (Life Cycle, Food Web, Single Celled Organisms), and Discover and Do Level 3 DVD.
Benjamin is finished with 3rd grade Horizons so he does Prodigy 4 days a week.
Extras are fun as usual. We have weekly Royal Rangers and park days when we are in town. Benjamin had a district level campout called PowWow with Rangers as well as a field trip to do some bird watching at Mother Neff this unit. We have daily piano and Duolingo practice. Our homeschool group had a Field Day in May that was a blast. The trips that have been keeping us busy were Arkansas at Easter to see the Shaders, ID in May to see Grace graduate, and Ben’s first international trip, the Guatemala mission trip in June. We also had a service day at Shepherd’s Heart, a food pantry in town. All great educational and real life activities for a 3rd grader!
