Home safe.
Some random things we want to remember about the trip:
- We were well insulated from the culture. Possibly due to having the kids with us or just that CFCI wants to be protective of their visitors. The mission house was very nice, with comfy beds, and wifi. Our guide was with us at all times and translated for us. We didn’t go into any personal homes though we saw that most were definitely not as nice as the mission house. They tried to feed us a mixture of traditional food and food that we would be more comfortable with. The kids were grateful for that.
- Our whole trip was very blessed. We didn’t have any travel issues, the weather was much nicer than the forecast, we had no personality or language issues with anyone we interacted with, and no one got super sick or hurt. We all had a little bit of tummy issues at different times, most when we got back home.
- Most neighborhoods and even some parking lots and gas stations had armed guards and gates.
- It seemed to be a cultural thing to have fancy clothes and cars but not to care too much about taking care of your house.
- Exchange rate in GUA was $1 to ~Q7
- Exchange rate in MX was $1 to ~P17
- Everyone we interacted with was loving and kind and we got lots of kisses. Even the guards and immigration agents in MX and GUA were talkative and kind to us as tourists.
- Driving seemed to be a game of who wanted to be on the road the most (or maybe who had the biggest vehicle).
- We saw multiple times motorcycles with 4 people on them.
- The kids thought it was funny they were stuck in “spanish mode” when we got back for a few days. They would say gracias and por favor without thinking about it.
- Love, smiles, and singing are universal
- Random photos and flowers can be found here
