This was the Eastern Hemisphere core so a lot of these countries, I hadn’t studies before. Hannah and I learned together!
For Bible there was an assigned student reading, but we added her Girl’s Ministry readings during our family devotion as she needs to read through the whole bible for Friends. We also had a devotional/deep study workbook called Remembering God’s Awesome Acts and a weekly memory verse or chapter.
In history/social studies, our spine was Journey to the Eastern Hemisphere (Africa). We also read Mary Slessor: Forward into Calabar and David Livingstone: Africa’s Trailblazer. We finished up 100 Gateway Cities, had weekly current events assignments, and timeline activities. We added in a short unit on Canada as I had a little unit study workbook we could do together.
Read Alouds were King of the Mound, Journey to Jo’Burg, and The Hobbit. She thought the Hobbit started out slow but enjoyed it by the end. We also finished up our All the Small Poems poetry book. This one was not our favorite.
Reading / LA included Sequential Spelling 3, a cursive assignment, Grammar, Wordly Wise 3000, Book 5, and a weekly creative assignment.
During this unit she read Red Sand, Blue Sky, Beat the Story Drum, Pum Pum, The Monitory and the Merrimac, and All Set Sail.
I thought science was a lot of fun. We didn’t have any experiments, just reading. We finished Improve Your Survival Skills, Exploring the History of Medicine, and Food and Nutrition for Every Kid.
In math, Hannah took a couple weeks off after she finished Horizons 4 and then we started Horizons 5. She feels a little ‘behind’, but I think it was good that we took some time to solidify her memory facts before continuing and causing frustration with more difficult problems.
Extras are lots of fun. Daily piano and Duolingo (Foreign Language). Weekly Hawaiian Falls, Girl’s Ministry, and play dates. We had a trip to Minnesota when our Australian cousins came into town and got to see all our extended Henry family. We also had Grandma’s retirement party, got her ears pierced, and a couple trips to the lake. She even tried water skiing. She didn’t get it, but we’ll try again!
Adding that as she gets older she has been doing more “helping” things. She helped run the scoreboard for a lot of Benjamin’s basketball games and she was promoted to “helping” at VBS instead of participating. She also decided to start helping with the PreK Sunday School class when needed. Lots of good responsibilities!
