Hannah’s writing assignment for this past week:
Pros and Cons of Being Quarantined
By Hannah Moehring
Recently, life has changed a lot for people all over the world. COVID-19 is spreading sickness and fear and because of the coronavirus, we have started quarantining. During this time of quarantine, we are forced to stay home and only leave the house when absolutely needed. There are some good things that come with staying home, and some things that are bad or annoying.
A con of this quarantine might be that we can’t hang out with our friends. At least not in person. Phone calls, texting, and video calls in Facetime or Zoom are still an option, but it’s just not the same. We all wish life would just get back to normal so we could high-five all our friends. Another con is the fact that many people can’t go to work. Employees and companies alike are both losing money from this world-wide event. Restaurants that would normally be dine-in must change to become drive-through or take-out. In a similar way, stores and markets must adapt their check-out lines and how often they restock. Also, everybody must clean themselves and surfaces that people touch much more often.
One pro of being quarantined at home is that we get to spend a lot more time with our families. This could also be a con if you have annoying siblings, but for the most part it’s good. Before this, people were busy with school and work, but now we get to spend all day with our loved ones. Homemade meals with everyone in your family at the table is definitely a blessing. We also get to share more of our time with God. Praying and reading the bible are good ways to do this. For gamers, another good thing is extra screen time. During this quarantine, there is a lot more free time than normal for us to play video games.
I think we can all agree that we hope COVID-19 goes away soon, but until then the best we can do is look at the bright side. We need to think about the things God has already given us, not what we think we need. We are so busy stocking up on food, toilet paper, and cleaning supplies, that we don’t thank God for the good things. I am so blessed to be here with my amazing family, and I can’t thank God enough for that.
