12 weeks down. I always feel like I’m a little behind right after Christmas, but it always works out, so I’m not going to stress about it. 🙂
We have morning devotions and journaling together and are still finishing up Hannah’s Girl’s Ministries bible reading merit. During school Hannah has a separate reading assignment and memory work. We are reading a couple supplemental books about the bible – The BBC Manual and How To Stay Christian In Highschool.
In history/social studies, our spines are The Story of the World: Early Modern Times, George Washington’s World, and The Usborne Encyclopedia of World History. We also do a current events assignment each week from our World Teen subscription. Our poetry book is called Classic Poetry.
Read Alouds for this unit were The Dark Frigate, Escape Across the Wide Sea, The Kidnapped Prince, The Arrow over the Door, and we started The Sherwood Ring. All of these were really good.
In Reading / LA we are doing spelling with Sequential Spelling 4, a weekly creative assignment, and vocabulary in Wordly Wise 3000, Book 7. She is in the middle of a research report that takes about six weeks. She reads all her readers to herself. This unit had The Ghost at the Tokaido Inn, Stowaway, and In Search of Honor.
We started Science H – Technology a little bit late in the school year, but it has been really interesting so far. Super Cool Tech reviews a lot of more recent inventions and how they are being used and Robotics is our experiment book. Hannah doesn’t always enjoy the time it takes to set up our experiments but she usually likes them when we are done.
In math, we are chugging along in Horizons 6. We just started some geometry which she is not very fond of, but we seem to be doing ok overall.
We have had a lot of extras to keep us busy. We always slow down during the holidays with parties and extra festivities and family visits and trips. We went to Kentucky for Thanksgiving and to Center Point and Bandera for Christmas. We also finalized our adoption of Ginny in Dec.
Hannah is still excited to be our worship leader for Active Love Church and is trying to teach herself guitar. We are starting to attract other members of the team so she has to stay organized. She is also getting Nate’s sermons edited and posted on time which has been very helpful to me.
Hannah is still writing songs and we are releasing them on our church channel in a playlist just for her: Hannah’s Originals. Her and the other kids are also making silly videos for their own channel. 🙂
