I had to write this post and post date it, because I still want the record.
Once we decided to do Core A, we have been hopping along. This is a good level for Ginny. She still needs a bit of practice on her listening skills.
Ginny has been learning how to follow along as the others read during devotions out of her own bible in the morning with Hannah’s bible readings. Then for Core A there is an assigned children’s bible reading from Ergermeier’s bible. She is also doing a weekly memory verse for school and a monthly one for Girl’s Ministries.
We have The Usborne Children’s Encyclopedia as our main spine. We are also working through Living Long Ago. We have a missionary story collection called I Heard Good News Today that we read a selections from. We also have a daily calendar activity and she fills in the month on the first day so we can add holidays and birthdays to it.
Our read alouds this unit were My Father’s Dragon, Here’s A Penny, Mary on Horseback, we started The House At Pooh Corner, and selections from In Grandma’s Attic.
Our poetry books are The Llama Who Had No Pajama and Arnold Lobel Book of Mother Goose.
We are finishing up working through LA1 (weeks 26-32) to give her a good foundation. She has a spelling test each week, grammar, and copywork. She is really good at story telling and creative activities. We have a word list book, I Can Read It, Book 3, a grammar workbook, and a handwriting workbook. During this unit, she read The Best Trick, Green Eggs and Ham, Little Bear, The Cat in the Hat, and One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish.
I have Joel and Ginny do science together. We have been working through Science K on a bit of double time. We use Discover and Do Science for our experiments and have a weekly selection from National Geographic’s Little Kids First Big Book of Why. During this unit, we also read Bees and Wasps, From Seed to Plant, Weather, and Magic Schoolbus: Inside a Hurricane.
For math, we are finishing up Horizons 2 before moving into Horizons 3. She is filling in some math facts with flash master practice each day.
For extras, we have been very busy with Connections and Active Love Church. The littles are not as good at understanding when they need to be helpers instead of players, but we are working on it. Ginny has been doing well with the karate class as her extra. We had a foster dog named Brownie during this period and she was in charge of feeding her. We also had some winter weather and snow so Ginny was able to build a snowman.
