I had to write this up and post date it because I’m a bit behind but still want the record.
For our morning devotions, Benjamin has been following along as Hannah gets her 3-year reading badge done. He has his own section of scripture to read each day and continues with his memory work on a weekly basis.
In history/social studies, we learned about money with Whatever Happened to Penny Candy? Our main spine is Journey to the Eastern Hemisphere. We completed a unit on Southeast Asia and Vietnam and started a unit on India. We have a couple selections each week from 100 Gateway Cities. He also stays up with current events with his World Kids magazine each week.
Read Alouds were interesting. Breaking Stalin’s Nose went over Ben’s head but I think he got a little bit out of it. We ready The Land I Lost or as we renamed it, ‘all the ways you can be killed by nature in Vietnam’. For India, we read Rickshaw Girl and Teresa of Calcutta. We also have a poetry reading from All the Small Poems a couple times a week.
In language, we do spelling with Sequential Spelling 3, grammar with Keys to Good Language 5, and vocabulary with Wordly Wise 3000 – Book 5. He also does a creative assignment each week, but needs a little encouragement to do a good job instead of just the bare minimum.
Ben read The Turning, Just So Stories, and Around the World in 80 Days.
Science is anatomy this year. We have been reading from Blood and Guts, Usborne Complete Book of the Human Body, and Food and Nutrition for Every Kid. He also read a short book called Almost 12. Not much in the way of experiments this round, but we did watch a DVD called Unlocking the Mystery of Life.
Math is chugging along in Horizons 5. He does well without my assistance most of the time.
Extras are always fun. Benjamin is really enjoying the karate class in McGregor. He is also our “tech” man for church functions. He runs our slides and plays our media. Very flexible as we sometimes don’t know what we are going to do until we get there. haha. We spend a lot of time at Connections and he is helpful when we need him to be. He helped with our foster dog Brownie, but was not thrilled with the couple days of winter snow that we had. He also got to launch his rocket for Royal Rangers rocketry merit.
