I had to write up this post and post date it because I’m a little behind but still want the record.
We do morning devotions by listening to Hannah’s bible reading, singing a couple songs, saying our prayers, then writing in our prayer journals. The assigned bible for Core K is The One Year Bible for Children. We read one entry for school each day. Joel works on one or two memory verses per week for school as well as one per month for Royal Rangers.
In history/social studies, we have sections of Heroes and Happenings Volume 2 as our spine. I have been impressed with how much Joel got out of these short bios of famous Americans.
Read Alouds were a little stretch for Joel, but it was good for him. We read The Terrible Two, Richard Scarry’s Please and Thank You Book, and Little House in the Big Woods. We use The Llama Who Had No Pajama for our poetry selections each week. Every now and then we worked his timeline and added the events we have learned about.
Reading / LA: Joel is in between on LA, so we do daily reading, a worksheet from ABC Mouse or handwriting, and Starfall for extras right now.
Science: We have been doing Joel and Ginny together for science but going a little faster than normal speed. We got weeks 20-28 done this unit. We read Weather, Magic Schoolbus: Inside a Hurricane, Why Do Elephants Need the Sun, and Wangari’s Trees of Peace. Each week we have selections from Discover and Do Science (and the DVD) as well as National Geographic’s Little Kids First Big Book of Why.
Math: Joel finished up Horizons K this unit and we had just been filling in with Prodigy, but after his birthday we started Horizons 1.
Joel’s extras include karate class with the siblings twice a week as well as lots of time at Connections and doing church activities. He is wanting to be a helper at Connections but not quite big enough for most things so I put him in charge of keeping trash picked up. He is in charge of feeding the chickens and picking up eggs.
