We finished up week 24 a couple weeks ago. I am enjoying this core once again, it is eastern hemisphere and I appreciate that Sonlight adds this in.
We are continuing with our regular morning devotions. Benjamin also has his own section of scripture to read each day and continues with his memory work on a weekly basis.
In history/social studies, we finished up our study of India and read a biography of William Carey. Our main spine is Journey to the Eastern Hemisphere. We also started a unit on the Middle East. We have a couple selections each week from 100 Gateway Cities. He also stays up with current events with his World Kids magazine each week.
Read Alouds included Daughter of the Mountains and Shadow Spinner. We also have a poetry reading from All the Small Poems a couple times a week.
In language, we do spelling with Sequential Spelling 3, grammar with Keys to Good Language 5, and vocabulary with Wordly Wise 3000 – Book 5. He also does a creative assignment each week, but needs a little encouragement to do a good job instead of just the bare minimum. I still have him do one assignment a week in cursive.
For readers this unit, Benjamin read A Beautiful Lie (this book was a little more intense than I thought it would be, but Ben did well with it), Ali and the Golden Eagle, and Habibi.
Science continues with our anatomy year. The Usborne Introduction to Genes and DNA, The Boys Body Book, and Food and Nutrition for Every Kid were our main books. Not much in the way of experiments this year.
Ben is still doing well in Horizons 5 for math.
Extras keep us happy. Benjamin is doing well in karate twice a week and we are still doing Royal Rangers on Wednesdays. We survived the Snopacalypse (Ben does not like cold weather). He is sometimes helpful at Connections and he is our tech guy at church events. 🙂 We had VBS this unit and he was a group leader and he also was a station leader at our Easter event. We went camping at the Diltz’s and visited Gram and PawPaw and we had three birthdays. Lots going on!
