Core A has been a good level for Ginny. We are still practicing some skills that she is going to need in the upper levels, and this is a great overview of world history. We are on track to finish in September, so we’ll just roll into B+C right away.
Ginny has been continuing to learn how to follow along as the others read during devotions out of her own bible in the morning with Hannah’s bible readings. Then for Core A there is an assigned children’s bible reading from Ergermeier’s bible. She is also doing a weekly memory verse for school and a monthly one for Girl’s Ministries.
We have The Usborne Children’s Encyclopedia as our main spine. We are also working through Living Long Ago. We have a missionary story collection called I Heard Good News Today that we read a selections from. We also have a daily calendar activity.
For our read alouds this unit, we finished The House At Pooh Corner. We also read Richard Scarry’s Please and Thank You Book and No Children, No Pets. We have our 5th day reading from In Grandma’s Attic. Our poetry books are The Llama Who Had No Pajama and Arnold Lobel Book of Mother Goose.
We finished LA1 and went straight into LA2. She has a spelling test each week, grammar, and copywork. She is really good at story telling and creative activities, but we are still struggling with mechanics. We have a grammar workbook and the littles have been learning cursive. During this unit, she read A Fly Went By, A Big Ball of String, and The Bravest Dog Ever: The Story of Balto.
I have Joel and Ginny do science together. We have been working through Science K on a bit of double time. We use Discover and Do Science for our experiments and have a weekly selection from National Geographic’s Little Kids First Big Book of Why. During this unit, we also read Why Do Elephant’s Need the Sun?, Wangari’s Trees of Peace, and Forces Make Things Move.
For math, we are almost done with Horizons 2 and will move straight into Horizons 3. She is continuing to fill in some math facts with flash master practice each day.
Extras keep us going, Ginny has been enjoying karate with the others. We survived a week of subfreezing temperatures, very rare in Texas, now called Snowmageddon. It was fun/frustrating. We had a lot of exciting events with Active Love / Connections. We ran a week long VBS, had an Easter Scavenger hunt, and a few crafts as well as our normal hours and church activities. We also camped out at the Diltz’s and went to see Gram and PawPaw twice. During this unit, we celebrated Nate, Hannah, and Joel’s birthdays as well. Pretty busy!
