Ginny finished week 24 mid-June. This is continuing to be a good fit level and content wise for her as it is very broad and shallow overview of world history.
Ginny is getting better at finding passages in her bible and making her memory work more of a priority. She learns about one verse a week for school and has her Girl’s Ministry ones as well. We have been reading Egermeier’s Bible Story Book as it is assigned in the core, but we started it late so are just doing one section a day.
In history, our main spine is Usborne Children’s Encyclopedia and we have Living Long Ago as a supplement. We read missionary stories from the time period we are in out of I Heard Good News Today.
For read alouds, we read A Grain of Rice, Twenty and Ten, Johnny Appleseed, Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs, In Grandma’s Attic, and started Little House in the Big Woods. We also has some selections from James Herriot’s Treasury for Children. We read poetry from The Llama Who Had No Pajama and The Arnold Lobel Book of Mother Goose.
We went straight into LA2 when we finished up LA1 so she did weeks 2-8 this unit. We have weekly spelling words, grammar with Explode the Code 4, cursive with Handwriting Without Tears, vocabulary with Wordly Wise A, and weekly creative assignments. She can read at a higher level than her writing level so we finish our readers quickly each week and then add in The Magic Treehouse for additional reading practice. Her assigned reading selections have been from The Beginner’s Bible.
We took a little time to focus on math facts with some flash card memory work as math was taking too long. Every now and then we throw that in there again. She is now working through Horizons 3 and doing fairly well.
During this unit we finished up Science K weeks 34-36 and went straight into Science A weeks 1-5. I’m doing a little extra on some days to try to catch Science A up to Joel’s week in the core, then I might start having Ginny do a little extra at her own level since Science A is pretty light for 3rd grade. So far we have done a frog unit and a weather unit.
Extras keep us all busy. We spend a lot of time at Connections and Active Love Church events including a karaoke night and pancakes at the park events. We have Girl’s Ministries weekly and Ginny got her first set of merits in May. Ginny got to go to Kid’s Council with trips to Hawaiian Falls and Urban Air. We went to the zoo a couple times and 6 Flags once. We went to OKC for a week long mission trip with the Dream Center. And we had multiple trips home to visit Diltz and Moehring families as well as a trip to the beach in Port Aransas. It was also her 9th birthday with multiple celebrations during this unit.
