Hannah has completed 12 weeks of 8th grade. She is rocking doing most of her work independently. This has been nice since I’ve been more busy with the others and little guy. We are starting the process of signing her up for dual credit in the fall and thinking about what she might want to do with her life. 😉
For bible, we do a family devotion. Then she does her own devotion time and school readings after that. She is finishing a book called Disappointment with God and she finished her bible merit. She still has memory passages and does well on those.
In history, Hannah finished The Story of Science: Aristotle Leads the Way and moved into The Story of Science: Newton at the Center. She also finished Archimedes and the Door of Science and read Ida Scudder. She started The Clockwork Universe. She does current events by writing a summary of a current new article in World Teen. She also still adds info to her timeline book on Fridays.
She read A Ring of Endless Light (which made us cry), Mister Max: Book of Lost Things, The Gammage Cup, Everything on a Waffle, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, and Penny From Heaven. She started The Outlaws of Sherwood and has poetry in The National Geographic Book of Poetry.
In language Hannah has vocabulary with Wordly Wise 3000, Book 8, cursive practice, and a creative assignment each week. She likes writing and gets into the various assignments.
Hannah has been having fun with her science experiments. She is doing them mostly independently and learning about simple machines and some of the math behind physics.
Hannah is working through Horizons Pre-Algebra this year. Making progress but definitely not her favorite subject.
Extras are keeping Hannah busy. She has a part time job which has varying hours and she has to work her school and church responsibilities around that. She also helps a lot at Connections with customers, and leading crafts, and with little guy. She knows how to make all our coffee drinks in case we have a big order or she will work the cash register. Hannah helped Nate hang our outdoor Christmas lights. She has weekly Royal Rangers and karate twice a week. Family gatherings this unit included Gram visiting in November, a trip to Arkansas with the Diltz crew, and Christmas in Bandera and Kerrville. Gram gave Hannah her guitar and she spends a lot of time singing and playing that or the keyboard.
