5th 6 Weeks of Core A

We always slow down on progress through the holiday season. We take off for all the fun parties and such and then have trips. It took us almost 3 months to get 6 weeks done. We’ll finish someday though. šŸ˜‰Ā

For school bible time, we are working through The One Year Bible for Children. We also do morning devotions as a family. Joel memorizes a verse for the week for school and Rangers.

In history, our main spine isĀ The Usborne Internet Linked Childrenā€™s EncyclopediaĀ supplemented withĀ Usborne Book of Wild Places. We also add things to our timeline at the end of every week.Ā

For read alouds we finished No Children, No Pets. We read The Berenstain Bears’ Dollars and SenseĀ and The Family Under the Bridge. We started Astrid the Unstoppable. We also read weekly selections from The Bill Martin Jr Big Book of Poetry.

Readers include a word list book (no cheating by looking at the pictures) called I Can Read It Word Lists. Joel readĀ The Best Trick, Green Eggs and Ham, Put Me in the Zoo, and Little Bear.Ā

We are on level with LA1. We have weekly spelling words, reading lists, grammar with Explode the Code 3, a cursive assignment, and a weekly creative assignment. He isn’t a great speller so we will do some spelling review this summer.

For math we are in the middle of Horizons 1. Joel will use Prodigy through the summer to keep up the practice.

We are chugging along with Science A. He has almost daily readings from The Childrenā€™s Encyclopedia and we do a weekly assignment and sometimes experiment from Discover and Do Level K.

Joel a weekly piano lesson and daily practice. He has karate twice a week and Rangers on Wednesdays. His main responsibility at home is feeding the chickens and collecting the eggs. During this unit he had a Christmas piano recital. His first one and he did great! We had lots of fun at Connections with events like bunco, ginger bread houses, Parents’ Night Out, and day camps during Christmas break. Active Love Church events also kept us busy like blessing bags, caroling, and missionaries visiting. We celebrated Ben’s birthday, had Thanksgiving in Arkansas with the Diltz clan, attended Daddy’s work Christmas party, celebrated Ginny’s adoption anniversary, had Christmas in Bandera and Kerrville, popped New Year’s Eve firecrackers, visited 6 Flags, and went on a destination wedding trip to St Thomas. No wonder we didn’t get much school done! Haha. We are blessed to be able to have a flexible schedule.
