Benjamin also finished up his school work a few weeks ago. Pictured above is his lapbook which serves as our record of his 6th grade work.
For devotions, we were following along with our church and studying The Story. Benjamin also had a school reading each day, a weekly chapter from International Children’s Bible Field Guide, a weekly memory verse, and we finished up getting our stickers on our timeline book.
In history/social studies, we finished reading The Story of the World: The Middle Ages and read The Monk Who Shook the World. We gave up on the Usborne Encyclopedia because I have the wrong version and the pages didn’t line up. Oops. Will have to update that for next year. Benjamin did a current event assignment on Fridays with World Kids magazine.
Read Alouds that we finished were I Juan de Pareja and Master Cornhill. And we also finished up our poetry book, Favorite Poems Old and New.
In language, we’ve been working through Sequential Spelling 4, finished grammar with Keys to Good Language 6, finished vocabulary with Wordly Wise 3000, Book 6, had a cursive assignment, and a creative assignment each week.
For readers we finished up The Samurai’s Tale and Shadow of a Bull.
Our science book that we finished this unit was Evolution: The Grand Experiment. We had a few Chemically Active experiments to finish as well.
Ben had a few lessons of Horizons Math 6 left but the last section is review anyway so I had him take the final test and he made an A so we called it done.
Benjamin’s extras are twice a week karate and Royal Rangers on Wednesdays. He also started ukulele lessons and is coming along nicely with that. He is also a good helper at Connections and is our tech man for church. Nate and Benjamin got to go to National Camporama with their Ranger outpost. It only happens every three years but has been only hold for two years so we’ve been waiting patiently for that. He got to shoot guns, throw axes, play chess, and collect pins. He had a great time. During this unit, we also had a family trip to Idaho/Montana to hang with the Shawn M family and Gram. We did some hiking and floating the river. Benjamin tried out paddle boarding and worked puzzles and played a real game of D&D with his cousins.
On to junior high!
