Our tour part of the trip started off bright and early as we returned our rental cars and got picked up by our bus driver – Jerek (a Muslim) – and tour guide – Dalia (a Messianic Jew) who had been raised on a Kibbutz (a socialistic community). Very interesting discussions with both of them over the course of the week!
We started the morning with a trip to the area where Jesus would have given the sermon on the mount (the beatitudes) near the Sea of Galilee and then the ruins of the town of Capernaum. Jesus did a lot of ministry there as he was not received well in his hometown of Nazareth. There were ruins of a large building with a meeting room that some think might have been where Peter’s mother was healed, we were also able to tour ruins of an old synagogue (probably after Jesus’ time) that the Romans had built a temple on top of after that. More photos from Beatitudes and more photos from Capernaum.
In the afternoon we visited a baptismal site at the Jordan River. Of course, Joel wanted to get in so Nate gave him a dunking. All of the photos from that.
After that we visited a boat museum where they had a preserved 2000 yr old fishing boat that was found on the shores of the Sea of Galilee in 1986.
And we finished with an evening boat ride on a more modern boat but still on the Sea of Galilee! Museum and Sea of Galilee photos.
