We needed a break for our arms to rest and the plaster needed a day to dry so we took a day trip through Northern Galilee. View photos here.
In the morning we toured Tel Dan (the ruins of the northernmost city of Israel) and saw the beginning of the Jordan River. It was flowing nicely due to the snowmelt. Tel Dan photos here.
Then we stopped at the ruins of Cesarea Philippi where the “Gates of Hell” is and where Jesus told Peter that “on this rock I will build my church” after he had declared that Jesus was the messiah. More photos here.
In the afternoon, we visited the Golan Heights which is a bit of more recent Israeli history. The border with Syria was in dispute until a war in the 1970s and the Trump administration finalized it in 2019 (that’s a long time to not have official borders). There are still signs marking land that may not be safe due to land mines that were planted. More photos here.
After that we had just enough time to get to a beautiful lookout over the Sea of Galilee (lake) near where Jesus sent the demons into the pigs. We watched the sun set and headed back for dinner and bed. More photos here.
