We finished week 24 mid April. Hannah has 12 weeks left and we are looking at wrapping up by the end of July even with all the distractions we will have this summer.
Hannah has a devotional called Bible Study Sampler. She finished a theological book called Evidence for Jesus. She has weekly scripture memory for school and also for youth and she is reading along with our church’s year long bible reading plan.
In history/social studies, we worked through the 6th and 7th book in the History of US series and started #8. Hannah also read The Dragon’s Gate, What is the Panama Canal?, The Yanks are Coming. She started To Kill a Mockingbird. She has a weekly current events assignment from World Teen magazine.
Language is pretty much the same each week with different creative prompts. She is still doing spelling with Sequential Spelling Book 6 and vocabulary with Wordly Wise 3000 Book 9. She has two ‘extra’ books that are scheduled sporadically; a Latin study called Vocabulary with Classic Roots and an SAT prep workbook called Analogies I.
Hannah’s reading books have included Bonanza Girl, My Heart Lies South, The Call of the Wild, and Out of the Dust. She started Moonshiner’s Son and her poetry book is A Treasury of Poetry for Young People.
Science is Apologia Physical Science. I have appreciated the student notebook as I think it is teaching Hannah good note taking skills.
Hannah’s math text is Math U See Algebra I. It has a video segment and then lessons. She has worked out a nice weekly schedule and is doing well on her tests. We have made it through two unit tests now and are in a short cycle of review before heading into the home stretch.
Lots of extras during this unit. Hannah celebrated her 15th birthday at a painting place doing ceramics with friends and the next night we had our Daddy Daughter Date and Gram even got to go. Hannah was a big helper at our church day camp for President’s Day and also for our Spring Break VBS. She was the craft teacher and did a great job of course. She also got to help lead worship one night at the McGregor all faith prayer and revival event. And the big event of this unit was spending 10 days on a mission and tourism trip to Israel! We had a great time and I hope it helped bring the bible alive for her.
Normal extras were club volleyball. Practice twice a week and tournaments every other week or so. They improved a lot over the season. Hannah also trades off babysitting for a little guy twice a week with Benjamin. She is a helper at Connections and church events as well as leading/playing for worship. She mostly does her school work independently and we are trying to get some drivers ed in there so she can get her permit soon.
