Halfway through 3rd Grade

Joel also finished up 18 weeks before the end of the year. Woohoo!

In bible, he participates in our family devotions each morning, has school readings, and school memory passages. He also has memory work for children’s class.

In history/social studies, our main spines are A Child’s History of the World and Usborne Book of World History. We use Window on the World for country studies and he is working through Geography Songs to learn some geography. We read a book about Michelangelo as well. We have timeline and currents events on Fridays.

Read Alouds for this unit we read The Cricket in Times Square, Castle Diary and Captain Nobody. We have selections from Aesop for Children and 104 Poems of Whimsy and Wisdom each week.

In LA we have a weekly spelling list, cursive assignment, Phonics C for grammar, Wordly Wise B for vocabulary, as well as our weekly writing assignment.

Joel read The Paint Brush Kid, The Littles, Third Grade Detectives #2, and started Viking Adventure. He finishes his assigned reading quickly so I add on an extra book for time each day to keep his reading practice going.

Science spines are DK Did You Know Science and The Story of Inventions. Joel also read Traits and Attributes. He has a weekly experiment that usually gets done on Saturdays.

Math is Horizons 3. He does well in math, starting some division.

Joel didn’t have any extras this unit and he was pretty grumpy about that. He’ll be doing Little Dribblers in January. We had two trips to CP/Bandera for Thanksgiving, birthdays, and Christmas. He goes to most of Benjamin’s basketball games and some practices. He has been doing a little bit of programming and prodigy when we have extra time to kill. He also likes to participate in all our church and Connections events.
