Last 6 Weeks of 6th Grade

Thanks to Hannah’s dual credit schedule we stayed mostly on track this year. Ginny finished up 6th grade mid-May. We have some math and language to do this summer. Here’s what she did.

For bible, Ginny participated in our family devotions, and had bible passages to read and memory work. She finished with a long passage from the beatitudes this past unit. She also had kid’s class memory work for church. She is almost done with the New Testament for Stars.

In history/social studies, our spine is Journey to the Eastern Hemisphere and corresponding notebook pages. This unit we finished Africa and did units on the Pacific Islands and Antartica. We also read selections from a book called 100 Gateway Cities. This unit we finished Living Water in the Desert and Mary Slessor: Forward into Calabar. She finished out her timeline and current events assignments.

Read Alouds included Journey to Jo’burg, Call It Courage, and The Horse and His Boy. We also had All the Small Poems as our poetry collection.

For math, Ginny is still working through Horizons 5 this year. We continue to use Prodigy as a supplement.

Language Arts had a regular weekly rhythm. We had a weekly cursive assignment, spelling with Sequential Spelling 2, grammar with Keys to Good Language 6, and vocabulary with Wordly Wise 3000 Book 5. Each week we had a creative writing assignment.

For readers, Ginny read Listening For Lions, Red Sand Blue Sky, and Water Sky.

Our science focused in for the last unit. We had weekly sections from Food and Nutrition for Every Kid and Ginny read Exploring the History of Medicine

Ginny had her track meet and decided she likes track so we may do that again next year. We all made it to one of cousin Rhiley’s softball playoff games, cousin Audrey’s college graduation, and a visit to Center Point to have a sleepout at Grandma’s house. Ginny discovered she likes corn hole. Ginny had a few open gyms for volleyball in May. She tags along to most of our church and Connections events.
