Last 6 Weeks of 3rd Grade

Joel wrapped up 3rd grade mid-May. We have a little bit of stuff to do over the summer to keep our brains working and Joel is enjoying the summer fun days at Connections on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

In bible, Joel participates in our family devotions each morning, has school readings, and school memory passages. He also has memory work for children’s class at church. He wrapped up with a longer passage, and did well.

In history/social studies, our main spines were A Child’s History of the World and Usborne Book of World History. We continue to use Window on the World for country studies and he is still working through Geography Songs to learn world geography. We finished up our timeline and currents events on Fridays. This unit we finished a book called Gladys Aylward and another missionary book called With Two Hands

Read Alouds for this unit were The Penderwicks, The Little Riders, and And the Word Came with Power. We also have selections from Aesop for Children and 104 Poems of Whimsy and Wisdom each week.

LA follows a weekly pattern. We have a weekly spelling list, cursive assignment, Phonics C for grammar, Wordly Wise B for vocabulary, as well as our weekly creative writing assignment. Joel wrapped up all of these workbooks.

For school Joel read Third Grade Detectives #10, The Last Little Cat, Tornado, and Jake Drake Bully Buster

Science spines were still DK Did You Know Science and The Story of Inventions. He had a weekly experiment from Discover and Do: 3rd Grade. We finished a unit on weather and read DK Eyewonder Weather. We also wrapped everything up with a robot book called National Geographic Kids Robots

Math was Horizons 3. Finished that level so we are playing Prodigy this summer.

In April, Joel got to participate in a tech club. They programmed a robot and had it fight the other teams. He also got to participate in the Good News Club we do at the elementary. Joel will have a basketball camp this summer. Other than that, we had cousin Rhiley’s softball playoffs, cousin Audrey’s college graduation, and Mother’s Day in Center Point. Joel was really excited to get to sit in Mr. John’s Tesla at Audrey’s graduation (featured image). For some reason he is really into Teslas. Normal church and Connections events. He still looks forward to Parents’ Night Out every couple of weeks.
